Railroads

Mission

Railroads in the District are owned and operated by operators, such as CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Amtrak. The Federal Railroad Administration FRA establishes operation and safety standards for freight and intercity passenger railroads. In its capacity, DDOT works to ensure the safety of the public and the operational integrity of the District's transportation system that crosses the railroad network.

DDOT shall incorporate transportation safety features in the development, design, and construction of pedestrian, bicycle, motor vehicle, and mass transportation facilities and programs (DDOT Establishment Act, D.C. Code §50-921.04).
