School Transit Subsidy Program
Mission
DDOT shall operate the District of Columbia School Transit Subsidy Program ("Kids Ride Free"), which provides reduced fares for District students to use Metrobus, Metrorail, or the DC Circulator to travel to and from school and school-related activities. (DDOT Establishment Act, D.C. Code § 50-921.04).
Procedures & Services
The School Transit Subsidy Program provides eligible District students with access to Metrobus, Metrorail, and the DC Circulator to travel to and from school and school-related activities.
In order for any District student to qualify for participation in the School Transit Subsidy Program they must meet all three of the following criteria:
Be a resident of the District of Columbia;
Be 5 through 21 years of age; and
Be enrolled in an elementary or secondary public, private, charter or parochial school located within the District; or youth in the care of the District.
