Creating flowcharts and organizational charts
In the event that you want to create a chart, flowchart, or just want to visualize your data in any type of diagram you can use the awesome Draw.IO tool within the wiki.
Step-by-step guide
- The first step, once you've figured our under what page/section you want to create your diagram is to select the three dots next to "Create" from the top of the page in blue.
- Scroll down and you will see as on option. Select that and you will be taken to the space to create your drawing.
- As soon as you get into the space, you will be given the option to either choose from pre-made templates and work from there or start from an empty work space and build.
Starting from a template:
You have the option of starting from a template with shapes and connecting arrows already made. You choose a template based on the topic of creation as pictured below on the left hand side. Once you select a topic you have an array of templates you can choose from. With this you can rename, reedit, reconnect items to your liking,
Lets say you want to make an organizational chart. You would select "CHART" and see a few different chart templates to choose from.
Selecting the "Org1" template we are giving green boxes with connecting arrows. However, what if we don't want the color to be green or the direction of the arrows doesn't match the information we have? We can simply change that as we like.
If you select any box, to the right you are give a style component from which you can change the color, opacity, gradient, add shadowing, fill, and more.
If you select any arrow, you can also edit it like you would previously. You can edit the direction of the arrow, its thickness, the actual style of the arrow, whether it be dashed, solid, and also change the vertices of the arrow and how it connects from one item to another.
If you look to the right of the style editor, you'll see the "TEXT" tab. Here, as you select any box you can change the text, font, centering, color, and add bold, italics, etc.
If you want to replace a shape with another, you can right click to delete that shape and choose your shape from the left side of options and drag and drop that shape into that same position. Doing this will disconnect the arrows from the shape and so you will have to reconnect the arrows.
To reconnect the arrows, you must select the arrow head you want to connect and drag that to the middle of the shape or until you see a highlight around the shape. Once you do this, it will be connected to the shape and as you move the shape, the arrows will follow.
