Turn and Lane Use Sign Types

Signs that describe how certain travel lanes are allowed to flow are called Turn and Lane Use-type signs. There are a ton of these types of signs and what's sometimes confusing is how similar some of them look. A slight change to the turning graphics can mean a completely new sign.Â
Here's an example:

The problem:Â according to the MUTCD, these two signs have the same sign code (R3-8a) even though the information on the signs is substantially different,
How these types are differentiated in Signworks?
Because we need to manage signs in an unambiguous way at DDOT, Signworks has more detailed sub-types to accommodate all the varieties we see out on the street.Â

Intersection Lane Control (R3-8)
This sign type contains turning pattern information, by lane. The codes in bold are the current MUTCD sign codes
