Finding the RouteID for a Project

Background

The Financial Management Information System (FMIS) is a Web application created by the federal government to get up-to-date financial information on a project.  Additionally, this information is shared with US citizens who may be interested in learning about a project. 

DDOT is required to submit information on all our federally-funded transportation projects.  The project location information must be provided using DDOT's centerline GIS information.  There are three pieces of information required by FMIS:

  • The GIS Route ID:  This is the unique ID for a given street/route centerline.  Within DDOT's GIS data, this is called the 'RouteID'
  • The Beginning Point:  This is the start location of the project.  Within DDOT's GIS data, this is called the 'FromMeasure'.
  • The Ending Point:  This is the end location of the project.  Within DDOT's GIS data, this is called the 'ToMeasure'

This guide shows users how to find all the above information about their project.

Step-by-step guide

Here's how you can find your RouteID and Begin/End Point info:

  1. Click on the map link:  https://arcg.is/1KfHGe
  2. Zoom to the location of your project on the map
  3. Before clicking on anything, understand the direction/flow of the centerlines by referring to the Centerline Direction Reference (Fig 1) to the right.
    1. In general, centerlines measurements flow or ascend outward from the Capitol building.
  4. Click on the block segment that corresponds to the beginning of the project.  (see Fig 2).  Make note of the Route ID and From Measure

  5. Click on the block segment that corresponds to the ending of the project.  Make note of the To Measure.

    Is your 'To Measure' a smaller number that the 'From Measure'?

    The To Measure should always be larger than the From Measure.  If this is the case for you, then you have started at the end. 

    The fix:  Just start from the other direction.  That is the proper direction.

  6. You are done!
    1. The RouteID is the GIS Route ID
    2. The From Measure is the Beginning Point
    3. The To Measure is the Ending Point
