Transportation Planning Board (TPB)

Mission

The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the region, and plays an important role as the regional forum for transportation planning.  The TPB coordinates, develops, and approves regional transportation plans and programs that the federal government must approve before federal-aid transportation funds can be spent. DDOT is one of the five members on the TPB (3 from the Council, 2 from the Executive Branch) that represents the District of Columbia.

All District surface transportation projects, including highway and transit projects, must be included in a Fiscally Constrained Long-Range Plan (CLRP) and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) that are approved by the TPB.
