Re: New Jersey Avenue Protected Bike Lanes & ADA Improvements
Dear Chairperson Daniels,
Pursuant to the “Administrative Procedure Amendment Act of 2000” D.C. LAW 13-249 (48 DCR 3491 April 20, 2001), the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is required to give a written notice of our intent (NOI) to modify traffic and/or parking requirements. This letter is being forwarded to you for the purpose of notification and solicitation of comments on our intent to implement the following in your jurisdiction:
DDOT will reconfigure New Jersey Avenue from H Street SE to Tingey St SE to add protected bicycle lanes on the corridor, address safety issues at pedestrian crossings, install bus loading platforms, convert 4 parking spaces to ADA parking spaces, convert 2 parking spaces to pick-up/drop-off spaces, remove all parking from the east side of the street between M Street SE and I Street SE, and reconfigure vehicular lanes from four lanes to three lanes between Tingey Street SE and M Street SE.
This project was conceived as part of the 2005 South Capital Trail Plan, the 2014 MoveDC plan, and will complete a missing bicycle link between the Capitol and the Navy Yard business district.
DDOT is coordinating with the DC State Historic Preservation Office, the US Department of Transportation, and the Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District.
All comments on this subject matter must be filed in writing by June 29th, 2021 (fifty business days after the date of this notice), with the District Department of Transportation, Transportation Operations Administration, 250 M Street, S.E. Washington, D.C. 20003. If you would like to check the status of this Notice of Intent (NOI), please visit DDOT’s website at http://ddot.dc.gov/DC/DDOT/Services/Notice+of+Intent If you are having any trouble accessing the NOI site or are unable to do so, please contact the DDOT Customer Service Clearinghouse at 202-671-2800.
