QAQC, Edits and Updates

QAQC

A flagging system was used in order to QAQC the data. Transportation Engineers and GIS Analysts flagged and tracked inconsistencies and inaccuracies through regular spot checking, flagging and data editing. This process was used for both the intersection editor and the roadway section editor. A shapefile of all centerline data is being used to query for larger overall inconsistencies in roadway data.  There is a focus on streets that were coded earlier in the process because they have more errors. We are also focusing on major arterials close to the city center because they are the most complex and have the largest margin for error.  Errors and inconsistencies will be flagged, checked, and edited if needed.

QAQC by Query

Within the Editor, some corrections were made by querying the completed roadway sections. SQL statements, in simplified terms, that were used to query the completed roadway segments included:

  • Select all roadway sections that are lines, but have a width that does not equal the value "Line." All line sections have are considered to have a width that equals the value "line," queried results were edited to reflect proper width.
  • Select all roadway sections that are considered buffers but do not have a directionality of "Bidirectional." All Buffers should be Bidirectional, so resulting sections were edited to reflect this rule.
  • Select all roadway sections that are considered barriers but do not have a directionality of "Bidirectional." Again, all barriers are considered to be Bidirectional.
  • Select all roadway sections that are buffers with landscape/grass/trees but have an "Asphalt" or "Concrete" Pavement Type. All landscaped/vegetated buffers should be "pervious or special (other)" Pavement Types.
  • Select all roadway sections where pavement type is null. All roadway sections must have a Pavement Type.

Edits and Updates

An edit or update can be flagged through JIRA or through internal documentation. Once an edit or update is flagged, the changes are made in the RCE editor through the following steps:

    1. Within the Editing tab, "RoadwaySection_1" is selected.
    2. "Return attribute set" is checked on.

2.

    1. Once "Return Attribute Set" is selected the bottom tab will appear.
    2. Determine which Roadway Section needs to be updated based on the flag. Double click on that feature (blue highlighted) and a drop-down will appear where the change can be selected.

3.

a. Once all updates are made and double checked. Select "save" (highlighted).

b. The Save Options Dialog box will appear. Check "Retire edited events..." and choose effective "Today." Press OK.

c. You have successfully made updates in the RCE editor!

  • *Note: When an event was created, if the option “Retire edited events and create new events with the current view date by default “ was selected, than the “created user” and “created date” will be overwritten by the new edits. This option causes the “created user” and “edited user” (and associated dates) to be the same, which may cause a problem in tracking future edits and the reasoning behind them.
