Mission
DDOT, along with the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA), shares responsibility for the safe, efficient, and effective management of vending in public space throughout the District.
DDOT shall coordinate and maintain vending regulations to ensure that they are responsive to the goals of creating lively and animated neighborhood streets, but also adequately protect public safety and movement.Â
Procedures & Services
DCMR 24-5: Vendors and Solicitors establishes the processes, requirements, and restrictions for vending in the District's public space, such as on sidewalks or streets.
DCRAÂ is the District agency responsible for issuing business permits and licenses.
Vending on Federal Lands
Anyone who wishes to vend on any street, sidewalk, or grounds under the jurisdiction of the federal government, such as the National Mall or the Capitol Grounds, must receive authorization from the respective federal agency, such as the National Park Service (NPS), or the Architect of the Capitol (AOC). (DCMR 24-501.5, 515.17).
