Mission
DDOT is committed to practicing environmental excellence as it fulfills its mission to enhance the quality of life for District residents, businesses, and visitors by ensuring that people, goods, and information move efficiently and safely with minimal adverse impacts on the environment. DDOT shall incorporate environmental considerations into its activities by following these objectives:
- Using resources efficiently
- Developing transportation projects and conducting operations in an environmentally sustainable manner.
All DDOT projects must adhere to the District of Columbia Environmental Policy Act, according to the standards set forth by Chapter 20-72 of the DCMR.

Procedures & Services
DDOT will prepare environmental impact statements (EIS) for major transportation projects, including new roadways, bridges, transit systems, road design changes, and rerouting of traffic from roads classified as principal arterials or higher onto minor arterials or neighborhood streets with lesser volumes.
DDOT is committed to continual improvement of its environmental processes, as well as compliance with all applicable Federal and local environmental laws, regulations, and other requirements.
